01 / The collection
A library built
around six shelves.
The Upgradian Library isn't trying to be everything — it's built around six subjects with real depth, collected over time rather than assembled all at once.
Science
Fiction
History
Leadership
Humor
Marketing
Survival
Science fiction
The genre that's shaped much of the Upgrade Party's own thinking about civic design, network states, and the future — see the For Your Consideration reading list for a sample of where this overlaps with real-world questions about power and technology.
History
Especially the kind that rewards a second look — the Marshall Plan, Roman engineering and military structure, ancient welfare systems, and the historical case studies already scattered across this site's reference guides.
Leadership
Books that hold up to scrutiny alongside genuine skepticism of "great man" narratives — see Thinking Big for the house style: enthusiasm paired with honest caveats.
Humor
Because a library that takes itself too seriously stops being fun to browse. Expect some genuinely funny finds mixed in among the weightier material.
Marketing
The practical, persuasion-focused shelf — useful both for building the Upgrade Party's own campaigns and for understanding how ideas actually spread once they leave a book.
Survival
Practical, not paranoid — situational awareness turned into real readiness. See Prepper President for the philosophy, and its own Worst-Case Scenario Survival Game section and Emergency Food Production guide for the hands-on material.
02 / The rollout
How it's reaching you.
Rather than a single giant catalog dump, the library is surfacing gradually — readable, digestible pieces rather than an overwhelming list.

This siteThe strongest pieces get a permanent home
Why Substack first: it's a fast, low-friction way to share a book a day without every entry needing the full reference-guide treatment. The pieces that deserve a deeper, permanent write-up — like the ones below — graduate to their own page here.
03 / Already available
What's already
on the shelf.
A running list of book reports already published across upgradeparty.com and amen28.us. This list will grow as more titles graduate from Substack.
Missing a title you'd expect to see? The Substack feed is the most current source — this page catches up periodically.
04 / Looking ahead
The bigger plan:
a library AI.
The long-term goal is to scan the collection into a proper database and eventually connect it to a large language model — an AI that actually knows this library, running on our own systems.
A folder of books is not yet an AI library.
First establish what you can use.
That's the opening line of our own technical reference on exactly this problem — and it's the principle guiding this project from day one.
Scan and catalog first
Every title gets a rights review before it goes anywhere near a database: public domain, licensed, or held pending review. Nothing gets ingested by default just because it's on the shelf.
Build the retrieval system
A rights-aware search index lets the AI cite real passages from cleared books — grounded answers instead of invented ones, with sources a reader can actually check.
Public where copyright allows it
The eventual goal is public access to the AI — but only for material that's confirmed public domain or properly licensed. Anything uncertain stays out of the public-facing system entirely.
Read the full technical plan: we've already written up exactly how we're thinking about this — provenance tracking, retrieval-augmented generation versus fine-tuning, copyright pitfalls, and the guardrails a responsible book AI actually needs. See
Machines, Stories & the Worlds Between for the complete reference guide this project is being built against.
Follow along
Watch the shelf grow.
New books are appearing on our Substack roughly ten a day, as full reports or simple curated lists. The strongest entries eventually get a permanent page here.
