Ignoring warnings is apparently part of human nature.

In mythology, Cassandra was doomed to know the future but to have no one believe her.

After the disaster happens, people experience the "I told you so phase".  This is also called the FAFO experience: "Fool Around and Find Out".

Also after the disaster, people say "Why Didn't You Tell Me?", when in fact you were warning them every day.   And they often say "I Never Want to Go Through That Again!!"
